Spidertech in Australia were contracted to provide safe access down the inside of the penstocks feeding each of the turbines at Tarraleah Power Station. They have over 20 years of experience in Hydro Power infrastructure and: "have been using ActSafe hoists for many years. We think they redefine how rope access is undertaken for many of our jobs - a real game changer."
With a descent of approximately 600 metres, a number of technical difficulties were overcome. The job required a lot of rope; over 2400 metres of rope was needed. Ensuring adequate isolations, maintaining remote rescue retrieval options and continuous communications with the work party was all part of the specially designed work method. In combination with their specialist access trolley, ActSafe powered rope hoists and a skilled team of operatives, Spidertech were able to deliver the service on time and under budget.
•Internal Inspection of 1200 metres of Penstock
•600 metres of continuous descent in a confined space
•Limited window within shut down to complete works
